RURAL HAVEN
Old meets New
Masterton
This beloved mid-century family home underwent an architectural revival with the addition of a modern black-cedar 2nd floor superbly positioned atop the original white-plastered ground floor. This renovation produced a seamless and gracious intersection between old and new.
Two bedrooms and a bathroom in the new upstairs area meant that the three original downstairs bedrooms could be repurposed into a master bedroom wing which included a generous walk-in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom. It also allowed for a stunning atrium stairwell entrance.
Sense of place, tūrangawaewae, runs strongly through this whānau, and now the whare that protects and nurtures them will continue to do so for many years to come.
FAMILY AT HEART
Stylish & Serene
Mt Marua
This spacious ranch-style home with a stunning valley view was in need of a makeover for new owners. Not requiring any major renovations the brief was to work with a new kitchen design and marry the new solid European Oak flooring to the remainder of the house.
The addition of a stunning bespoke barn door set the tone for the design scheme. Once the client was convinced of using a dark colour we were able to mirror this throughout the house.
We chose a combination of warm honey tones accented with black, grey, petrol & tobacco for the soft furnishings. This worked seamlessly with the timber cupboards in the kitchen and the beautiful custom coloured timber flooring.
Collaborating with Kitchen Elements - Design & Installation and James Henry Ltd made this project a pleasure to be involved with, and delivered an outstanding home for our clients to love.

Architecture Award Winning Arrow Crib
Arrowtown
The brief for new owners was to combine a Central Otago getaway for their grown-up family with a sophisticated yet relaxed Air BnB holiday accommodation.
This cleverly design “small house” has a total sq meterage of 100sqm but boasts 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 living areas.
Pip worked closely with some of our most trusted furniture crafters throughout NZ to deliver this complex project on time and within budget.
The use of earthy, natural palate and materials worked in harmony with the surroundings. Taking the lead from the natural schist, plains & mountains the neutral colour palate is serene and stylish.
HISTORY HONOURED
Restoration project for a growing family
Island Bay, Wellington
With a new baby on the way, the pressure was on to get this lovely villa stripped out and put back together for this young family.
While it was important to honour the integrity of this house the brief was to make it reflect the people who lived there and their new way of living with a young family.
Working as a team with the builder and client we restored original architectural features and added personality and warmth while focusing on it being hardwearing and timeless.
STAYING POWER
New Lease of Life
Northland, Wellington
There comes a time in our lives when we look at our home and suddenly see it with fresh eyes. That moment sometimes takes you by surprise and has you wondering how your once loved family home all of a sudden looks a bit worn.
The lockdown period of 2020 was a time for reflection for many of our clients. The home that they normally spent only evenings and weekends in, all of a sudden came into sharp focus as they saw it in all hours and all lights.
Spaces were converted into makeshift or near permanent offices,
and living areas ~ places of solitude became vitally important to escape to.
Our focus turned inward and we decided we deserved better.
This project was borne of such thinking. A family home that
had nurtured and protected for so many years was suddenly a sanctuary for two.
A complete refurbishment of the soft furnishings, flooring and lighting has given this lovely home a new lease on life and in doing so has re-energised those she protects.
